GERRI

DE LA SAL

GERRI DE

LA SAL

A GOOD
OMEN.
They say salt is much more than just a seasoning. In ancient times, it was white gold, a form of currency, a treasure essential for preserving food—and with it, life itself. It is also a symbol of protection, wisdom, power, and even curse. Even today, spilling salt or stepping over it by accident is considered a bad omen.
Gerri de la Sal is a village that, for centuries, lived to the rhythm of the saltwater that gushes from its spring. A borderland, between north and south, between the tangible world and the one sensed but unseen. It is part of the municipality of Baix Pallars, with more than twenty charming villages.

MYSTERY.
Too often, it has been seen as merely a place to pass through—a stop on the way to the mountains. Don’t be fooled. It is, in truth, a land that one must pause in to truly understand Pallars Sobirà. A territory that holds far more stories than it seems.
This year, the Tabaca Film Fest comes to Gerri de la Sal, in the heart of Baix Pallars, a municipality full of fascinating villages and legends waiting to be unearthed. And we can assure you, there’s more magic here than you might think.

EAT.
Baix Pallars offers a cuisine rooted in tradition, prepared with patience and skilled hands—with no rush, just the kind of wisdom only time can offer. In Gerri de la Sal, there’s even a Japanese restaurant with a waiting list longer than a foggy morning on the mountain roads.

WANDER.
Baix Pallars is a landscape that speaks for itself, and it’s inexhaustible.
Forests, trails, Montcortès lake, the Collegats gorge, the Boumort nature reserve, the medieval village of Peramea… It’s part of the Orígens Geopark, which invites reflection on our origins and destiny. There are also secret paths, deer, mountain shelters, and corners from another time, while in the sky soar bearded vultures and cinereous vultures.
Beware: here, every step can turn into a story.

ACCESS.
Good news: you can get here by public transport! And if you’re coming by car, access is quite simple—well, as simple as crossing the Pyrenees through mountain passes can be. Otherwise, where would the adventure be?
